Terms and Conditions - The Legal Stuff

Easy Terms & Conditions

This document represents the agreement between UBS Easy Storage (‘we’/’us’) and our customer (‘you’).  We have gone to some effort to make this document easy to read and understand, so please take a minute to read it.

What We Do:  We pick up, store and/or ship, and drop off your possessions.  We will make every attempt to treat your possessions as we would our own, and we also will do our best to show up for appointments within the window of time agreed to between you and us.

What You Do:  You pack your possessions (see our Packing Tips on our website), and you agree to be in your dorm or apartment at the times we agree to for drop-offs and pickups.  You also agree to notify us of any address changes, phone number changes, email changes, school changes... that might occur during the time your possessions are in storage.

You Promise NOT to:  You promise not to pack any hazardous materials, materials under compression, liquid materials, explosive materials, ammunition, live animals or insects, or perishable items in the cartons we handle for you.  Please see the Damage You Will be Held Responsible For section below.  A list of hazardous materials can be found on the US Dept. of Transportation Site – search for ‘Hazardous Materials Table’.

What You Need to Know about Shipping:   You agree not to try to ship items that violate UPS restrictions.  Please see the UPS website for a list of banned materials & items:  www.ups.com.  You also agree that a UPS delivery confirmation (with or without signature) will be the sole determination of successful delivery.  We cannot ship anything for you that is not packaged in a carton.

Damage We Take Responsibility For:  We take responsibility for damage to items that we handle during transport and storage except for:

  • Cash, jewelry, coins, collectibles, or extremely fragile items like crystal, mirrors, glass or china, guns and other weapons.
  • Items that can’t be valued (items with sentimental value).
  • Stored data.
  • Perishable items.
  • Any item that is illegal or that is used for illegal purposes.
  • Damage that is a result of terrorism, acts of god, earthquake, fire, flood, war, or other natural disaster.
  • Minor damage to large items that are a result of normal handling: (scratches, nicks).
  • Damage that is not visible from the exterior of the container (invisible damage).
  • Electronics not in their original packaging.
  • damage that occurs while your possessions are located in your home or dorm room, in the dormitory hall, or on your driveway.
  • damage of any kind that occurs during shipping.   The shipper (ie. United Parcel Service) is responsible for any damage after they take possession of the item.

Damage You Will be Held Responsible For:  You are responsible for damage your possessions cause to other UBS Easy Storage customers as a result of leakage or emanation of any liquids, hazardous fumes, infestations or foul odors from your possessions.  Please see the You Promise NOT to sectionabove.

How We Value Your Items:  Unless you tell us something has more value, we value all cartons at $100.00 each, and all items not in a carton at $100.00 each.  If anything you are storing is more valuable than this, you must tell us at the time of pickup.  The maximum value you can place on an individual item (declared value) is $400.00.  There is an overall value limit on the combined contents of your passions of $4,000.00.

We recommend that you consider adding the stored items to your renter’s insurance policy or your parent's homeowner’s policy.  This will likely provide more complete coverate for your posessions.

How a Shipper Values Your Items:  If you want us to ship an item for you, each shipped carton is insured for $100.00 by the shipper (ie. UPS).  If you want more insurance, it is your responsibility to tell us about cartons you want insured for more than $100.00.  There is an additional fee for increased shipping insurance.  Any claims related to damage during shipping must be made with the shipper (ie. UPS).

If Something Goes Wrong During Storage or Transport:  If damage does occur,  we will do our best to make it right by repairing or replacing the item, or by reimbursing you for the item based on a value of $100.00 per item/carton, unless you specified a higher value at the time of pickup.  We ask that you check delivered items for damage at the time of drop-off, and under any circumstances, we ask that you let us know about any damage within 14 days of our returning stored possessions to you.  Remember, we are not responsible for damage that happens during shipping.

Rights You Give Us:  You agree to let us open your cartons/containers at any time so that we can check if contents are packed properly, or check for damage.  If you fail to take delivery or pick up your property at the end of the storage term, we will charge a monthly storage rate plus a penalty of 10% of the initial storage charge up to a maximum of sixty days.  After sixty days, your items will be disposed of.  If there is still a balance due after items are disposed of, we will continue to pursue getting payment on the balance.

Rights We Give You:  You can visit your stuff when it is in storage.  But you must give us advance notice of two business days so that we can make your items available to you.
