Packing Tips
-
Safely wrap all items before packing them in a box.
-
Fill all empty spaces inside the box with newspaper, towels, bubble wrap, or blankets to prevent items from moving around.
-
When sealing boxes, only use tape specially made for cardboard. Duct, masking, or electrical tape will not adhere to cardboard and should never be used. It’s a good idea to use two strips of tape on the bottom and top of each box.
-
Packed boxes should weigh less than 70 pounds.
-
Evenly distribute textbooks into multiple boxes.
-
Make certain to pack heavier items on the bottom of the box and closer to the center.
-
Do not over pack or over stuff boxes. The top of the box should lay flat once it’s sealed.
-
Neatly write your name and the contents on the outside of each box
-
When possible use the manufacturer’s boxes and packing materials for larger items.
-
Refrigerators should be thoroughly cleaned and freezers completely defrosted.
-
Large and non-fragile items do not need to be boxed, but it’s strongly recommended.
-
All drawers should be emptied out and taped shut.
-
Remove all batteries from electronics.
-
Flammable, toxic, or hazardous materials should never be packed. These items will not be accepted for storage.
